A Super 8 postcard of a place. Eli Han stars in this bustling morning scene at a small Chinese bakery in Chicago: Chiu Quon Bakery 超群茶餐廳 on Argyle Street.
Eli and I have been going to Chiu Quon every so often for a few years now, switching colors on the cta for the promise of cheap, cash-only goodies. After I left Chicagoland, Eli moved closer to Chiu Quon, and their bakery visits became walkable and more frequent than "every so often". I visited Eli in Chicago in early 2024 and filmed our visit there.
About a year later, I revisited the footage and asked Eli to record sound for me. They recorded the atmospheric bustle, the sounds of ordering, the crinkle of pastry being packaged. I layered it upon itself, with other things too (there's an easter egg in there for my DC friends). Eli's biggest note when I sent them the first cut was "I miss like... the loud-ass sound of the refrigerators?" So I added it back in, and it felt a lot homier, like how it feels inside Chiu Quon.
Chiu Quon is a film that meshes my senses of home, intertwining who&where I used to be with who&where I am now. No matter how I change, I know I can return to Chiu Quon and enjoy a 叉烧包 (bbq pork bun) that I wish had a little more filling, but tastes like home.

While in covid isolation in 2021, I went to the empty park across from my apartment every day at sunset. Over those 10 days, I noticed subtle changes in the landscape - the rapid emergence and life cycle of dandelions, a growing swarm of leafy green weeds, the blooming of small purple flowers in bunches. Much like these elements I wouldn’t have noticed without the recurring trip, in its inception I wanted Dreamlogic to challenge the audience to intensely immerse themselves into a landscape, so intensely that they notice the most subtle of changes, such as the wind displacing hairs. Some parts of the film are more drastic in their movement, but even through the shots with more action, the creeping pace of time is noticeable, daring the audience to give the film their undivided attention. The film carries the audience through waves of sensation, building tension and releasing it with catharsis.
Many of these shots came to me in my dreams, that is, I had an experience from a particular point of view, and once awake I longed to recreate that unique visual perspective for others to see.
Dreamlogic craves to hold your attention, and I hope you'll let it.

Dreamhotline
Dreamhotline follows Tara, a ‘Voice Model’ at DuaHotline, a call service that replicates the voices of deceased loved ones. Tara struggles to make ends meet but is reluctant to seek help from her taunting father. When Rajesh Tiwari, a wealthy man who also happens to be the father of DuaHotline’s creator, seeks Tara out to replicate the voice of his estranged living daughter Khwab, Tara is conflicted but decides to help because she needs the money. Both Rajesh and Tara fall into a pattern of using each other as placeholders for their respective strained relationships. As Rajesh demands more and more from Tara, she begins to question the sincerity of his motives and rethink what it really means to “make a Dua.”

Dear journal,
Dear journal, is an ongoing collection of people sharing their journal entries of varying forms. On each load, you are presented with a random clip and its associated color. I made it in hopes of providing moments of connection in a very isolating time. Hearing someone's voice is an intimate thing. There is also a catalog page, if you wish to be the master of your own navigation. It's a live project that continues to grow. Submit a clip to be added here.
